CLEARLAKE >> The first student mural created for the Clearlake Youth Public Art Project has been hung at Big O Tires in Clearlake. Business owner and mural sponsor, Denise Lousalot, is delighted with the bass depicted by Burgundi Stickel, age 11.There are eleven murals in this initial phase of the Art Project and more murals will soon be appearing around town. Dave Deakins of Deakins Construction is handling the professional mountings. The Clearlake City Council has scheduled an agenda item for their September 28 meeting at which they will recognize and commend the student artists for their positive contribution to the community.Additional businesses have already indicated their interest in having a mural and students also are contacting Stephanie Figueroa, owner of the Art House Gallery, because they want to participate in this fun and exciting project.Ms. Figueroa can be reached at 295-1030.The Clearlake Youth Public Art Project is co-sponsored by the Art House Gallery and the Children’s Museum of Art and Science. It is a public service program which is free to interested students in the Clearlake, Lower Lake and Clearlake Oaks areas. Businesses that wish to sponsor a student mural are asked to pay the cost of materials and mounting only. Sponsors can select a mural subject (which must be local Lake County wildlife) from pictures posted on our Facebook page or can commission a specific creature as they desire.
